MaiCord is written from scratch in C++ and draws its own interface with Direct3D 11. No Electron, no browser engine, nothing to install: one small portable app that stays out of your way.

Why another client?
The official desktop app is a web page running in Electron, and it carries a whole browser with it. MaiCord renders on the GPU and only redraws when something on screen changes, so it starts instantly and sits idle at near-zero CPU. It is built in freestanding C++23 with no runtime dependencies beyond the DLLs that ship with Windows.

Themes for colors, type, spacing and animated backgrounds
The first public release. It follows the private 0.1.x previews, with a long list of fixes and a measured performance and memory pass.
Upgrading from 0.1.x
0.1.0 and 0.1.1 can't install later updates on their own: their installer rejects every newer package. Replace that install once by hand with the zip below; from then on MaiCord updates itself from Settings > Updates.
New
Plugins: Plugin SDK ABI 5 with typed reads of guilds, channels, roles, members, presence, voice and cached messages; batched gateway events; message decorators; context menus on users, messages, channels, guilds, attachments, links and emoji; keybinds; GPU background effects.
Profiles: rebuilt profile popout and full profile, plus Edit Profile with main and per-server tabs, an image cropper, decoration and effect pickers.
Messages:`ansi code blocks with coloured underline and strikethrough; merged image galleries for embeds sharing a link; polls with the current layout and vote flow; replies show attachment, sticker and voice placeholders.
Servers: server banners in the channel header, guild card and settings; still guild icons that animate on hover; badges above icons; thread browser in the header search bar.
Media: iPhone recordings play, with rotation applied; HEVC streams with an alpha layer decode; animated WebP keeps transparency; Klipy favourites play.
Emoji shortcodes now come from Unicode, gemoji and emojibase data, with familiar aliases like  and .
Fixed
Lock-ups when opening popouts for members with many roles.
Updates failing to install after the account module changed.
Voice participants missing from the member list, and the call view staying open after a disconnect.
Mention autocomplete working only while the member list was open.
Cyrillic and other text turning into substitutes when a single cluster couldn't be shaped.
Pasted ANSI text being rejected by the composer.
Settings flicker when opened during the open animation, and the backdrop freezing.
Server tag cards, member-tab placeholders, channel-name clipping and the taskbar beep on restore.
Faster and lighter
Startup: the first frame appears in 63 ms, down from 84 ms; the device and pipelines are created off the UI thread.
Idle: a static channel presents about 2 frames instead of about 52. An overdue typing deadline no longer spins a full core.
Scrolling: 366 µs of CPU per frame (p50), down from 606 µs.
Media decoding: JPEG and GIF decode about 5.6× faster, lossless WebP about 8×, with bit-identical output.
Gateway: SIMD JSON scanning and validation cut producer CPU by 64%; large compressed frames stream instead of failing.
Memory: media decode threads start only when needed (29 MiB less private memory at startup), and user appearance and activity records are compacted.
Size:MaiCord.exe and MaiCordAccount.dll together are 7.3 MiB.

Is it an official Discord app?
No. MaiCord is an unofficial third-party client, not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord Inc. Using third-party clients may violate Discord's Terms of Service and could put your account at risk. Use it at your own discretion.
Where are my sign-ins stored?
On your PC only, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MaiCord, encrypted with Windows Data Protection so they can be read only by your Windows account.
How do updates work?
MaiCord checks GitHub for new releases and verifies each update against a signature built into the client before installing it.
Can I share my screen or camera?
Not yet. You can join voice, watch Go Live streams and see cameras today; sending video and screen share are on the roadmap.
Does it run on macOS or Linux?
No. MaiCord is built for Windows 10 and 11 and uses Direct3D 11 and other Windows APIs directly.
